These qualifications are for students who have a passion or a career interest in working with equines, specifically horses and ponies. Through a combination of practical experience and written assignments, these courses will provide a wide range of levels to accommodate mixed ability students. The variation of equine based studies will give students the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a career in the sector.

If a student is in KS4 and is looking for a pathway which includes equine studies, our usual route is for them to study the Level 2 Certificate or Extended Certificate in Horse Care. We are open to discussions for students who may have a wealth of knowledge or for high achievers to study the more advanced courses within KS4. When this qualification is achieved, the Level 2 Technical Diploma in Equine Studies would be the logical next step and this could be carried out in Post-16 (pending individual progress of students). The Level 2 Technical Diploma is an ideal qualification for those intending to progress directly to employment in the equine care sector, or to an equine apprenticeship.

Post-16 students who may not have joined us for KS4, are able to complete the earlier level courses that are delivered during years 10 and 11. For advanced Post16 students, we feel confident we have something for everyone within the vast amount of Level 3 qualifications on offer.

On The Ground, Hands On Experience

ADO have a great selection of horses and ponies on the land, including a thoroughbred, two Welsh Section A's, a Cob x Native Breed and a Shetland pony. We have excellent facilities on-site including turn out areas, stables, exercising round-pen, a paddock, a woodland trail and about 3.5 acres of grazing. As part of the BTEC qualifications, the students will be hands on with the horses and ponies in their actual environments, utilising the extensive facilities, resources and tack required for the course and studying with the expert educators and the team at ADO. We also have a longstanding relationship with a local riding centre where we accommodate student riding lessons sporadically.
